JERUSALEM, September 8, 2011 (WAFA) – East Jerusalem schools suspended study for two hours Thursday at the call of the union of parents committees, in protest against the revision and alteration of Palestinian textbooks by the Israeli Ministry of Education.
The union announced that it rejects teaching the children by the Israeli version of Palestinian textbooks, which aim to spread Israeli terms and remove Palestinian ones, such as Intifada and any reference to Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.
The union said that it will call on Palestinian textbook authors to file a lawsuit against the Israeli ministry of education for violating copyrights.
It also addressed the Israeli ministry of education and the Jerusalem municipality to cancel their decision regarding this matter.
The Jerusalem municipality claimed that the material which was removed from the Palestinian textbooks is inciting against the State of Israel.
The union said that further measures of protest will be taken against the Israeli authorities in the upcoming days and weeks.
