Drop in Hotel Activities, says Statistics Bureau

RAMALLAH, September 7, 2011 (WAFA) - The number of hotel guests in the Palestinian Territory fell by 6% in comparison to the first quarter of 2011, with a drop of 18% in room occupancy, the total number of guests falling by 0.3% and the number of nights increasing by 16%, according to a report by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) on Wednesday.
 
The total number of guests in Palestinian hotels was 132,000, spending 339,000 nights during the second quarter of 2011, of which 32% were from European Union countries, 14% were from Asia and 7% were from USA and Canada.
 
Room occupancy was 25% in the second quarter of 2011, a fall of 28% compared to the second quarter of 2010.
 
The number of hotels operating within the Palestinian Territory in the second quarter of 2011 was 60 in the West Bank, 26 in the
Jerusalem area and 12 in the Gaza Strip.
 
The survey of hotel activities in the second quarter of 2011 was implemented by PCBS to provide key indicators on hotel activity, including the number of hotels, guests, occupancy rates of rooms and beds, number of workers in hotels, and hotel capacity.
