Abbas: Popular Movement Essential to Support UN Bid

RAMALLAH, September 6, 2011 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Tuesday said that the peaceful popular movement is essential to support the Palestinian bid to the United Nation to seek full membership and recognition of a Palestinian state in September.

In a meeting with ‘Palestine Deserves’ group, which launched the ‘Flying Seat’ campaign, Abbas affirmed that regardless of the outcome at the UN, returning to negotiations is the only option to resolve all final status issues.

He expressed admiration of the campaign’s program, praising all efforts made by the group to insure the success of the campaign and to gather as much as possible of the international support.

He concluded that the campaign reflects the Palestinian people’s ability and creativity in using peaceful and civilized methods in promoting their just cause and in their demands for the world to stand beside the Palestinian peoples’ right for full member status at the UN and a chair of their own.

‘Palestine Deserves’ campaign is a group of young businessmen and women from all over the West Bank who are set to travel the world with their very own chair to drum up support for the PLO’s bid. The chair is colored in traditional UN blue and was designed and made in such a way that it can even be packed away and carried in a suitcase.
