Consumer Price Index Rises

RAMALLAH, August 14, 2011 (WAFA) - The overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Palestinian Territory increased by 0.38% in July 2011 compared to June, and by 2.97% compared to July 2010, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.

The change is traced to that in the following major groups compared to the previous month: an increase in prices in restaurants, cafés and hotels by 1.88%, medical care by 0.92%, food and soft drinks by 0.87% and furniture and household goods by 0.17%. A decrease was recorded in transportation by 0.54% and in recreational and culture goods and services by 0.42%.

The CPI increase was also different based on geographical areas, where the West Bank had an increase of 0.13%, East Jerusalem of 0.52% and the Gaza Strip of 0.12%.
