RAMALLAH, August 13, 2011 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas Saturday reiterated to the US consul general in Jerusalem, Daniel Rubinstein, the Palestinian decision to seek United Nations recognition of a Palestinian state in September.
The United States is strongly opposed to the Palestinians’ UN move claiming it is a unilateral move and contradicts with the negotiations track in the stalled peace process.
Abbas told Rubinstein during a meeting at his office that the Palestinian step is a result of Israeli intransigence and refusal to abide by international agreements.
Israeli settlement policy is the real obstacle to resuming real negotiations to end the occupation and establish a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, added Abbas.
