Fayyad Declares Re-routing Bilin Barrier a Victory

RAMALLAH, June 29, 2011 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said Wednesday that the Israeli decision to change the route of the Bilin barrier is the beginning of Palestinian victory and end of occupation.

Speaking at his weekly radio talk, Fayyad said the Palestinian popular resistance gave credence, once lost, back to “our national struggle, to the justice of our cause and to our peoples’ legitimate rights.”

He said that the peaceful resistance “was able not only to neutralize the largest military power in the area, but also to defeat it. The moral strength of the popular peaceful resistance won over the power of the decadent occupation.”

He said the resistance was able to show the world the true picture of the Palestinian struggle, which is “a struggle of a people seeking freedom and emancipation facing an oppressive occupation and its settlement project.”

“This example our people in Bilin had achieved four years after the Israeli High Court’s decision to change the route of the barrier is the story of a peoples’ victory,” said Fayyad. “It shows their will to be free and liberated from occupation by using non-violence method to challenge and resist the occupation, its settlements and the wall,” he said.

Fayyad said the Palestinian Authority will help the people of Bilin to reconstruct their freed land.
