BRUSSELS, June 28, 2011(WAFA) - Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, Tuesday praised the readiness of the Palestinian Authority’s institutions as well as emphasized his support to the Two-State solution and the need to resume negotiations.
This came in a letter sent by Ki-moon to the 'Europe's role in supporting the Palestinian state-building and achieving peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians' Conference, which opened Tuesday in Brussels, under the auspices of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.
Ki-moon in his letter, said that settlements are illegal, impediment to peace and must be stopped in the Occupied Territory, including East Jerusalem.
Palestinian general delegation in Brussels said that most interventions emphasized the need to resolve the Palestinian issue as a key to end the conflict in the Middle East.
It emphasized the need to work on gaining recognition of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders through supporting the draft resolution, which Palestinians will submit to the United Nations next September.
It said that seeking UN recognition of a Palestinian state must not be considered as a procedure to isolate Israel, but it is to achieve the two-state solution, Israel and Palestine, which means supporting the independence of the State of Palestine on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital, which also will enhance reaching peace in the region.
