Newspapers Review: Dailies Highlight Naksa Day?

RAMALLAH, June 5, 2011 (WAFA) – The anniversary of the June 5, 1967 war, which Palestinians refer to as Naksa Day, was the highlight of all Sunday’s Arabic dailies.

“Palestinians commemorate 44th anniversary of Naksa Day,” said the common headline in Al-Quds, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida and Al-Ayyam’s front pages.

The three newspapers also reported on the re-opening of Rafah border crossing after Egypt suddenly closed it on Saturday for repairs.
Al-Ayyam’s top headline from Yemen read: “Yemini president transferred to K.S.A. for treatment; armored division in army joins opposition.” Al-Quds and Al-Hayat Al-Jadida featured the same story.

The three dailies reported current events from Syria, Libya and Egypt.

Al-Hayat Al-Jadida published an exclusive story under the headline: “Hamas delivers final stance on prisoners exchange deal to Cairo.” The paper said that Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouq arrived in Cairo for that purpose.

Al-Ayyam printed a picture of protests supporting a Palestinian state in Tel Aviv on Saturday.

Al-Ayyam’s editorials questioned the Paris Conference and discussed the sudden closure of Rafah crossing. All three dailies’ editorials also discussed the Naksa Day.
