Israel Arrests, Harasses Palestinian Activists

WEST BANK, June 2, 2011 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Thursday arrested four Palestinian community and political activists in Nablus and Tulkarm, north of the West Bank, and one youth from Bethlehem, according to security sources.

Israeli forces broke into the homes of former Fatah deputy Husam Khader, a lecturer in al-Najah university Ghassan Thoqan, as well as a third man, Yaser Badrasawi, and searched their homes.

Thoqan’s wife said that the soldiers came at 2 a.m. and provided no justification. A family member of Khader’s said that the soldiers not only sifted the house’s contents, but also seized his personal computer.

In Tulkarm, security sources reported that a military unit broke into the home of a former Hamas deputy, Abdel Rahman Zidan, thoroughly searched his home and arrested him.

Soldiers broke into another home and arrested one youth from Husan, a village north of Bethlehem.

Israel has increased raids and arrests in Husan, summoning several of its residents to report to its intelligence in Etzion settlement compound.
