Gaza Prisoner Enters 22nd Year in Israeli Jail

GAZA, June 2, 2011 (WAFA) - The Prisoners’ Centre for Studies said Ayman Khalil al-Far from Gaza has spent 22 years of imprisonment thus far in Israeli jails.

Al-Far, from Sheikh Radwan area in Gaza, was arrested on June 2, 1990 for stabbing and killing a settler, and was sentenced to life.

The director of the Centre said that al-Far completed his undergraduate degree in political science and international relations in the Open University of Israel during his detention, and is obtaining his master’s degree there as well. He has constantly been in solitary confinement, and has been transferred to most of the Israeli prisons during his term.

He also said that al-Far, like other prisoners from Gaza, has been denied family visits for years, and he has lost both his parents while in prison.

Al-Far’s mother was always present at all sit-ins for prisoners’ rights and longed to see her son again, but she died before she could fulfill her wish.
