RAMALLAH, April 4, 2011 (WAFA) - The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club (PPC) said in a statement Monday that the health condition of Kayed Kalbuna, a Palestinian prisoner serving a life sentence, was quickly deteriorating.
It said he suffers from severe problems in the nervous system caused by heavy beating on his head after his arrest and in particular during interrogation. It called on the prison authority to provide him with the necessary medication to save his life.
There are 1,500 ill prisoners in Israeli jails suffering from heart problems, kidney failures, and cancer. Prisoners do not receive adequate medical care, and are only treated with painkillers, according to the PPC.
Several prisoners also suffer from psychological problems as a consequence of solitary confinement. A total of 14 prisoners have been in solitary confinement for over five years.
