CAIRO, April 1, 2011 (WAFA) - Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League for Palestinian affairs and occupied Arab territories, Muhammad Sbeih, Friday called for a unified international stance to prosecute Israeli war criminals for the crimes they committed during their aggression on Gaza in 2008.
Sbeih welcomed United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution to submit Goldstone report, which documented Israeli crimes in Gaza, to UN Security Council, and considered the resolution a way to “help bring justice to civilian victims of Israel, and make israel re abide by the international humanitarian law”.
He emphasized the importance of taking punitive measures against Israeli army leaders, in accordance with the severity of the crimes committed in the Gaza Strip, and called on the UN Security Council to take practical deterrent actions in response to Goldstone recommendations, including bringing Israeli war criminal to the International Criminal Court.
He said that the Arab League worked hard through its mission in Geneva, and with direct coordination with the Palestinian Authority’s missioner towards submitting the report to Security Council.
“Israel bombed schools, killed children and attacked UN headquarters in its aggression on Gaza. The lack of a solid international stance against Israel’s human rights violations of unarmed Palestinian civilians encourages it to continue with its racist policy; such as the unbroken siege on Gaza”, he added.
