JERUSALEM, March 31, 2011 (WAFA) - Israeli soldiers and police Wednesday night broke into Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Wadi Hilweh neighborhood in Silwan, south of the Old City of Jerusalem.
According to witnesses, soldiers broke into the Center and searched it under the pretext of looking for its director Jawad Siyam, who was then at the Israeli Supreme Court facing allegations against him concerning the Center’s activities.
Later, the court lifted Siyam’s house arrest which was previously extended several times, but imposed certain conditions restricting his work and the work of the Center in the town.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center aims at documenting the Palestinian story of Silwan, which has recently been the target of escalating Israeli attacks to expel its residents and seize the town for Jewish settlement.
