Fayyad Briefs EU Delegation on Human Rights Situation

RAMALLAH, March 30, 2011 (WAFA) - Prime Minister Salam Fayyad Wednesday briefed a European delegation on Palestinian Authority efforts to improve human rights in the Palestinian Territory.

He also briefed them on efforts to achieve national readiness for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

The European delegation is in the country to participate in the annual meeting of the Palestinian-European joint committee on human rights, good governance and rule of law.

The meeting, which took place in Fayyad’s Ramallah office and in the presence of European Union Representative Christian Burger, discussed efforts by the PA to consolidate human rights, rule of law, good governance and independence of the judiciary in Palestine.

The European committee is holding a two-day workshop in Bethlehem to Follow-up and review progress in the goals and activities of the joint work plan between the EU and the PA, which is based on Fayyad's two-year plan “Ending the Occupation, Establishing the State.”
