Al-Ahmad Denies Hamas, Fatah Meeting

RAMALLAH, March 29, 2011 (WAFA) - Azzam Al-Ahmed , member of Fatah central committee Monday night denied news and statements regarding an agreement between Hamas and Fatah about holding meetings in Cairo or elsewhere in order to discuss unresolved issues.

Al-Ahmad confirmed President Mahomud Abbas's initiative is clear; which includes the formation of a government of independent and professional figures. Abbas confirmed that yesterday during the executive committee’s meeting.

He added that any other discussions of unsolved or future issues could only happen after ending the internal division and under a unified authority.

He said that statements made by Mahmoud al-Zahar, co-founder of Hamas and a member of Hamas leadership in the Gaza Strip, saying that Abbas should postpone his visit to Gaza until they agree upon all Palestinian leadership issues and the political program, are a rejection of Abbas’s initiative and persistence on the current division.

Al-Ahmad called on Hamas to stop such statements and to announce a frank and clear approval of Abbas’s initiative; visiting Gaza and forming a unified government that works on conducting legislative, presidential and national council elections.

Noting that the initiative of Abbas was approved by the Arab League and the Organization of the Islamic Conference as well as it was adopted by the Palestinian liberation organization (PLO) through the central council.
