HEBRON, March 29, 2011 (WAFA) - Scores of Israeli army units and border guards attacked and assaulted 7 Palestinian farmers and shepherds Tuesday morning in the town of Yatta, south of Hebron city in the southern West Bank.
According to security and local sources, the Israeli forces raided the area of Um Nir adjacent to the illegal settlement of Susiya, shooting tear gas, beating the farmers with sticks and injuring seven elderly Palestinians.
The constant vicious attacks instill terror and fear in the hearts of residents, said Ratib al-Jabour, coordinator for the popular committees to resist the separation wall and settlement construction east of Hebron. He also called on rights groups to save people living in Yatta from Israel's policy of “ethnic cleansing.”
Several settler attacks have been reported under the protection of Israeli army and police, aimed at evacuating Palestinian residents for settlement expansion.
