Arab League Condemns Israeli Escalation in Gaza

CAIRO, March 23, 2011 (WAFA) – The Arab League Tuesday firmly condemned the Israeli escalation in aggression against the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the killing of eight Palestinians and the injury of several others.

The League’s Assistant Secretary General for Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Affairs, Mohammad Sobeih, stressed in a statement issued by the Arab League, saying:” these serious crimes require urgent international intervention to force Israel to halt the bloody aggression against innocent and unarmed Palestinians”.

He said that the Palestinian issue will remain the key issue in the interests of  the joint Arab actions and Arab League actions until the declaration of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders and Jerusalem as its capital.

Sobeih added:”  in light of the Palestinians’ suffering in the Gaza Strip, we call on the UN security council, the united nations and the international Quartet to hold legal and ethical responsibilities to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza”.
