Fares Blames Israeli Government for Threats to Prisoners’ Families

RAMALLAH, March 20, 2011 (WAFA) – Chairman of Palestinian Prisoners Club Qaddura Fares Sunday held the Israeli government responsible for Israeli threats against Palestinian prisoners’ families.

Pro-Shalit Israeli groups on Facebook issued calls to block buses transporting Palestinian families to visit their imprisoned relatives and to gather around prison gates to prevent the visits, until the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit being held by Hamas since 2006.

Fares said these calls and intentions reflect the Israeli government’s continuous attempts to instigate Israeli reprisals against Palestinian prisoners and their families.

Israeli groups should pressure their government into completing the prisoners exchange deal instead of pressuring Palestinian prisoners’ families, he added.

Fares called on the Red Cross, the supervising authority of the visits, to take the necessary measures to end such threats.
