Embassy Helps Gaza Residents Return Home Through Cairo Airport

CAIRO, March 17, 2011 (WAFA) – The Palestinian embassy in Cairo said Wednesday that 56 Palestinians who were trying to return home to the Gaza Strip were given visas to enter Cairo Airport and were later helped to travel to Gaza.

It said in a statement that Palestinian resident of the Gaza Strip need to obtain a visa from Egyptian embassies abroad before arriving at Cairo Airport in order for them to be allowed into Egypt on their way home.

The Palestinians, who had difficulty entering Cairo, had arrived at the airport and were met by embassy staff who transferred them to Rafah crossing after completing all entry procedures.

Palestine’s ambassador in Cairo, Barakat Al-Farra, said that efforts are underway to help transfer the rest of the Palestinians stuck at the Libyan-Egyptian borders to Egypt after getting visas to be later transferred to Rafah crossing with the Gaza Strip.
