Abbas Calls on Quartet to Support Peace Process

RAMALLAH, March 14, 2011 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas Monday called on the quartet for Middle East peace to take a position in its next meeting that would strengthen the peace process.

He said after meeting with quartet envoy, Tony Blair, in Ramallah that the Palestinian leadership supports a peace process based on the road map, the Arab peace initiative and international resolutions.

He urged the quartet, which is made up of the United States, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations, to state in its meeting next month a position that set condition for the success of the peace process based on the 1967 borders and an end to Israeli settlement activities.

Abbas briefed Blair on the latest developments in the region and the stagnation in the peace process as a result to Israeli policy.
