JERUSALEM, March 13, 2011 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Sunday continued to impose strict security and military measures on Jerusalem, putting up checkpoints and barricades to close main roads leading to the city, according to local sources.
The measures included spreading police forces and border guards along the illegal Separation Wall, closing main crossings leading to the city and obstructing movement of Jerusalem residents to their schools and workplaces though extremely slow searches.
Israeli police stopped Jerusalem residents’ cars and issued traffic tickets, which many residents described as retaliatory.
WAFA reporter said the Israelis enforced their military and police presence in the Damascus Gate area, near the Jewish Cemetery in which the killed settler family from Itamar settlement will be buried.
Israeli patrols roamed Jerusalem streets, especially near Silwan, a town south of Jerusalem and adjacent to the Damascus Gate area. Extremist Jews began to flood the cemetery area in the Old City.
Israeli Radio said a number of Israeli officials, members of Knesset and Israeli parties will participate in the funeral.
