Israeli Forces Attack Anti-Fence Protests in West Bank

RAMALLAH, March 12, 2011 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Friday attacked the weekly anti-fence protest marches in the Ramallah area villages of Nilin, Bilin and Nabi Saleh, injuring Palestinians, Israelis and foreign peace activists.

In Nilin, a village west of Ramallah, dozens of participants, including Israeli peace activists, participated in the weekly march against the apartheid wall and settlements. Several suffered from tear gas inhalation after Israeli soldiers fired several rounds of tear gas canisters at them as they approached the fence separating their village from farm land.

Participants in the march raised the Danish flag after Denmark last week upgraded the Palestinian diplomatic representation in Copenhagen from delegation to mission.

In Bilin, west of Ramallah, dozens also suffered from tear gas at the weekly march against apartheid wall and settlements. Participants called for an  end to Palestinian division and the release of all Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

A delegation from the French Foreign Affairs Ministry visited Bilin and met with the popular resistance movement against apartheid wall and settlements. The delegation discussed the Bilin non-violence movement for the past six years.

In Nabi Saleh, northwest of Ramallah, Israeli forces assaulted young Palestinians who participated in the weekly anti-fence protest. The soldiers also arrested members of  the foreign solidarity movement and led them to unknown destination. Several participants suffered from tear gas.
