NEW YORK, March 5, 2011 (WAFA) – The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, Friday concluded its 54th session with the adoption of draft resolution on the situation and assistance to Palestinian women to be sent to the Economic and Social Council for adoption, in UN headquarters in New York.
The resolution would have the Economic and Social Council demand that Israel comply fully with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, among other treaties; calls on Israel to facilitate the return of all displaced Palestinian women to their homes; and on the global community to continue to provide urgently needed assistance.
The commission approved the resolution by a recorded vote of 31 in favor with only Israel and United States voting against, and 10 abstentions.
Nadia Rasheed, the representative of the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine, expressed her gratitude to the Commission for approving the text.
