Foreign Ministry Working to Get Palestinians in Libya Back Home

RAMALLAH, February 22, 2011 (WAFA) – Assistant foreign minister for Arab affairs, Tayseer Jaradat, Tuesday said that the foreign ministry is working with the Palestinian embassy in Libya on bringing back home Palestinian students studying in Libyan universities.

Jaradat said that the foreign ministry is in constant contact with Palestinian the students confirming that they were all safe and unharmed.

Hussein al-Sheikh, in charge of civil affairs in the Palestinian Authority, told Palestine television that the PA is following up on the situation of Palestinians in Libya since the beginning of the ordeal there.

Sheikh explained that the PA has called on several Arab and international parties to pressure Israel to allow Palestinians living in Libya to return home immediately, noting that most the Palestinians in Libya do not have West Bank residency papers.

He said that PA is preparing a plan to receive them properly and ensure their needs.

Palestinians residing in Libya are estimated in the thousands.
