RAMALLAH, February 21, 2011 (WAFA) – Prime Minister- designate, Salam Fayyad, said on Monday that national unity must precede reconciliation.
What we currently need is to unify the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and then move towards reconciliation, he said.
He suggested forming a national unity government with Hamas that will unify the West Bank and Gaza Strip, before reaching reconciliation which could come at a later stage.
Fayyad’s initiative says that Hamas will keep its security arrangements in the Gaza Strip and the PA will keep its security arrangements in the West Bank since it is the only point of disagreement between them, but the two can agree on having one government for both the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
