RAMALLAH, February 21, 2011 (WAFA) – Condemning reactions Monday continued against US Veto against anti-settlement resolution submitted to Security Council.
General Union of Palestinian Women expressed deep resentment of US Veto against anti-settlements resolution in the Palestinian Territory.
It considered the US stance opposing the International community’s will; which refuses Israeli settlements policy and endorses the anti-settlements resolution which is supported by 14 countries within the Security Council and adopted by 130 countries from member states of the United Nations.
The Union insisted that this stance provides protection to the continuous settlement activities in the Palestinian Territory including Jerusalem and undermines international efforts to achieve peace and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
It emphasized its support to President Mahmoud Abbas and the PLO’s stance that refuses the US pressure discouraging them from going to the Security Council to condemn the Israeli Settlement activities.
The Union also called on the PLO to end the inner division in order to regain national unity.
Marwan Barghouti, jailed member of Palestinian Parliament insisted that the US Veto is considered a crime against the Palestinian’s rights, Arab’s rights and against humanity. He also considered a slap in the face of the public opinion and international consensus.
He called on Palestinians and the world to condemn the American pro- Israel policy and to participate in public demonstrations to end the occupation.
He also called on President Mahmoud Abbas to immediately hold a national conference for dialogue with the participation of all blocs and parties on the basis of the prisoner’s document of national reconciliation to accomplish reconciliation.
He emphasized the necessity to work in a new Palestinian strategy frame based on transforming the entire Palestinian file to the Security Council, UN General Assembly and organizations of International community, in order to isolate Israel on a regional and international level and to impose sanctions on it.
National Society for Democracy and Law considered the US Veto a violation of all laws and charters that consider the Palestinian Territory an occupied land; i.e. its status can’t be harmed, its people must not be expelled and they have the right to self-determination and establishing their own independent state.
The society demanded US to revise its stance, and work to stop all forms of violations against unarmed civilians in the occupied Palestinian Territory. It also demanded the Security Council and the Human Right Council to stand by the Palestinian justice in order to condemn and stop these violations.
