Palestinians Call for UN General Assembly Meeting

RAMALLAH, February 20, 2011 (WAFA) – Member of Fatah Central Committee, Nabil Shaath, Sunday said that Palestinians will ask for a UN General Assembly meeting under the title “united for Peace”.

Shaath said that the US Veto was expected, however it will not stand in the way of the Palestinian plans.

“United for Peace” session will have Security Council powers and authorities except for the 7th Article UN Charter.

“The PLO will continue on its plans with the support of friends; 14 countries voted for our benefit such as France, Britain and Russia and they are committed to many resolutions and to a Palestinian state within the 1967 boarders,' he said.

Shaath added that the General Assembly resolution will transform the conflict from over disputed land, as Israel claims, to a conflict over occupied land as in Iraq and Afghanistan, which will help us to face occupation and ask for international support as an independent state.

“Our endeavors will continue on to the Supreme Court of Justice and UN Human Rights Council as well as the popular level by establishing sanctions committee to boycott Israel,” he said.
