Israeli Police Assault Prisoner’s Family in Court

JERUSALEM, February 16, 2011 (WAFA) – Israeli police assaulted the family of a Palestinian from Silwan, a neighborhood of East Jerusalem, when he was brought to a court in Jerusalem on Tuesday and arrested his brother, Wednesday said Palestinian sources.

They said police arrested Imad Abbasi when he attempted to defend his family, whom the police attacked for talking to his brother, Abdul Rahim, who was brought to court to stand trial.

The court extended the remand of Abdul Rahim, who was arrested in the middle of last year, until March1.

The court also sentenced Ibrahim Abu Diab, also from Silwan, to one year in prison for his anti-Israel activities in the Palestinian neighborhood.

It had also extended the arrest of three men from Silwan and released a mother of one of them who was arrested on charges of concealing information about activities of her son and others. The three men were arrested two weeks ago on charges of carrying out anti-Israel activities.

Their lawyer told WAFA that the hearing is held in secret and that family members have been denied entry and the lawyer is not allowed to see his clients.
