Settlers Uproot Olive Seedlings in Ramallah Area

RAMALLAH, February 15, 2011 (WAFA) – Israeli settlers Monday uprooted newly planted olive seedlings in Nabi Saleh village near Ramallah, according to witnesses.

The settlers came from Halamish, a settlement built on land belonging to Nabi Saleh and Deir Nitham villages near Ramallah.

Nabi Saleh youth gathered at the entrance of their village to defend it after settlers began a march toward their land.

Israeli soldiers intervened to stop the settlers and turned them back to the settlement.

The uprooted olive seedlings were planted two months ago in the presence of Palestinian officials and Maher Ghneim, minister of state for the wall and settlements affairs.

A group of settlers also uprooted more than 250 olive seedlings in Safaa area of Beit Ummar village north of Hebron. The seedlings had been planted in the presence of Ghneim and Hebron Governor Kamel Hmeid last month, in areas near the Kerem Atsor Jewish settlement.
