RAMALLAH, February 14, 2011 (WAFA) – A lawyer of the Palestinian Prison’s Club said on Monday that Palestinian political prisoner Shaher Ashah has not been able to see his imprisoned wife for 13 months and his health is consistently deteriorating.
Ashah is in prison serving an 18 year sentence and his wife Iman is serving 13 years sentence.
He suffers from several health problems including back pain, weakness of sight, skin disease and he needs a denture. His condition is seriously deteriorating and the only medication given to him is pain killers, he said.
The lawyer added that the prison administration did not allow Ashah to visit his wife in Damon prison for 13 months in spite of the permission he obtained from the Israeli court in Beir Sheba, in the Naqab desert, to visit her every three months.
Israeli authorities also banned visits to both prisoners for the first five years of their arrest, causing many problems for their children and family. Ashah's father has not been allowed to visit his son after he was moved to a prison in Naqab, the Club said.
Ashah has two children, 13 and 14, suffering from serious psychological condition.
He demanded immediate medical care and facilitating visits to his imprisoned wife.
