Consumer Price Index Up in Palestinian Territory

RAMALLAH, February 14, 2011 (WAFA) - Overall consumer price index (CPI) for the Palestinian Territory reached 131.52 in January, Monday said the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).

It said in a press release that the CPI increased by 0.12% in January compared with December 2010 and increased by 2.88% compared with January 2010.

The rise in the CPI was attributed to increase in transportation costs, which went up by 2.87%, housing, which increased by 1.03%, and furniture and household goods, which went up by 0.57%.

At the same time, prices of food and soft drinks decreased by 0.78%, as well as in miscellaneous goods and services by 0.32%.

CPI in the Israeli annexed parts of East Jerusalem reached 0.46%, West Bank 0.28% and Gaza at 0.09%.
