Muslim Aid Delivers £130,000 of Medical Equipment to Gaza Hospital

LONDON, August 7, 2010 (WAFA)- Muslim Aid delivered, this week, over £130,000 of medical equipment to Al-Shifa Hospital- the largest hospital in Gaza, Muslim Aid said.

The medical supplies will allow for greater healthcare to thousands who are in need of urgent medical attention since movement restrictions were placed on the Gaza strip. The recent donation by Muslim Aid is one of many operations with the aim to deliver emergency assistance in line with the needs of the people, a press release said.

Muslim Aid's Country Desk Manager for Palestine, Abdi Qani Hussain said: 'Muslim Aid is grateful to the Egyptian authorities for allowing the Charity to take the equipment through the Rafah border. We are also grateful to the Egyptian Medical Syndicate for coordinating the arrangements and to the Egyptian Red Crescent for facilitating the smooth transfer of medical equipment to Al-Shifa Hospital Administration.'

The official also met with partners on the ground to conduct a needs assessment for future projects. Over £2 million which was raised from the emergency appeal in January 2009 has allowed Muslim Aid to help Palestinians affected by the conflict with ongoing programs in Rainbow Family, Microfinance, water and sanitation, education support and child trauma care, according to the press release.
