Hammad: President Approves of International Force Deployment Regardless of Religion

RAMALLAH, August 7, 2010 (WAFA)- President Mahmoud Abbas’ Political Advisor, Nimer Hammad, said that the President approves of deploying an international force on the borders of the Palestinian State, regardless of its members’ religion.

That came in a statement Hammad made to WAFA, it reads:

“Some media outlets, namely in the United States published news reporting that President Abbas had said he would not accept, in case of establishing an independent Palestinian sovereign state, that any Jewish soldier be present in any international or Atlantic force that might be deployed on the Palestinian- Israeli borderline.

“What those media reported to President Abbas is entirely untrue. The President had spoken about this subject in numerous occasions, including his meeting with AIPAC organization leaders, interviews with a number of Israeli journalists, and meetings with several international personalities. His position was clear; that the principle of deploying an international force is accepted regardless of its soldiers’ religions. Nonetheless, he will not approve of the existence of any Israeli soldiers in such forces regardless of their religion, since it is well known that there are non-Jewish soldiers in the Israeli Army.”
