RAMALLAH, October 19, 2009 (WAFA)- EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana said Monday “when the Palestinians take control over difficult issues like security they do a very good job.”
At a press conference at EUPOL COPPS HQ in Ramallah, he made the following comments related to the improvement of the security situation in the West Bank: “Am very happy that everybody recognises the efforts by the Palestinian Security Forces to guarantee security in the territories that the Palestinians control. I hear this from the Palestinian people, from the Israeli leaders and today I even read it in the press.”
In reference to the work by EUPOL COPPS supporting the Palestinian Civil Police, he underlined: “We are proud if we contribute to that and I hope that we have contributed to that but the important thing is the Palestinians”.
In the offices of EUPOL COPPS in Ramallah, Solana had a bilateral meeting with EUPOL COPPS, Chief Constable (ret.) Paul Kernaghan, and Head of EUBAM Mission, Col. Alain Faugueras.
Earlier, Solana met with President, Mahmoud Abbas, and Prime Minister, Salam Fayyad, in the context of a visit to the West Bank and Israel.
