UAE Reiterates Commitment to Continue Aid to UNRWA

NEW YORK, September 26, 2009 (WAFA)- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) appreciates humanitarian efforts made by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) aimed at providing health, educational, social and humanitarian services to the Palestinian refugees, and reiterates its commitment to continue its financial and economic assistance to the Palestine refugee communities.

''This also includes the annual contribution of the UAE to the Agency's regular budget and its direct and indirect financing of the infrastructure projects in the Palestinian camps,'' said UAE Minister of State  Reem Al Hashimy in an intervention she made here yesterday before the High-Level Event of UNRWA's 60th Anniversary as part of 64th Session of the United Nations General Assembly's First Debate Panel on 'Contributing to a Better Future: UNRWA's Record and Road Ahead'.

 Al Hashimy added :''In this regard, the UAE calls upon the international community to carry out its political, legal and humanitarian responsibility towards these Palestinian refugees and ensure its fulfillment of the following obligations: To force Israel, the Occupying State, to stop its repeated aggression against the Palestinian refugee camps and remove all blockades and closures, including obstacles placed by Israel in the way of the plans and programs of the Agency and on the movement of its personnel, in order to enable the Agency to undertake its humanitarian work in accordance to the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy, international law.”
