Three Arrested, another Wounded at Weekly Demonstration in Bil’in

RAMALLAH, September 25, 2009 (WAFA)-  Three demonstrators  were arrested and another were injured  Friday by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) during the  weekly demonstration pacifist in West Bank village of Bil’in west of Ramallah city against the Israeli Apartheid Wall.

In a press release,  the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) said  two of the arrested   Israeli peaces activists; Asaf (25)  Ben Ronein ( 26)  and the photographer Haitham AL Khateeb(33). Although, Husam Al Khateeb was wounded, in addition to  dozens were injured due to inhalation of intensive tear gas, that has been launched  at demonstrators, during the Israeli repression against  the weekly demonstration at Bil’in.

 The gathering has started directly after the Friday prayers, as the popular committee has called for the demonstration, with the participation of international and Israeli peace movements members. Demonstrators raised Palestinian flags, and banners condemning the policy of occupation of the building of the Wall and settlements and the closure of roads and setting up barricades and daily arrests, raids and incursions.

 Demonstrators walked in the village streets, chanting the slogans against the occupation policy, and when they approached the gate of the Wall, which shut down by Israeli soldiers, the soldiers who were behind concrete blocks started to fire at them with gas bombs, causing tens of cases of suffocation.

The famous Israeli human rights lawyer Adv. Tamar Pelleg-Sryck (83) – who was the lawyer of the village of Bil’in from the first days of the demonstrations before Adv. Gaby Lasky – visited Bil’in and supported villagers actions. She says “I strongly oppose the building of the apartheid wall; the people of Bil’in have the right to defend the land and they shouldn’t be arrested for practicing their right. I hope that Israeli human rights organizations will express their support of the Bil’in cause”.
