LA VALETTA , August 28, 2009 (WAFA)- A group of individuals working within various NGOs in Malta are organizing a fund raising activity for the Holy Land Trust (HLT), the Malta Independent Online reported today.
The trust yearly sponsors the rebuilding of houses that have been demolished by the Israeli Occupation in Palestine.
The activity is due to taking place on Friday in Bugibba Square from 6pm. HLT spokesperson in Malta, Mahira Sheikh explained that the activity was open to the public and had two main attractions: Palestinian food and a jamming session by various musicians.
The Palestinian food included couscous with vegetables and meat, felafel and humous with bread and traditional sweets.
The musicians include Alistair and Paul from Colourblind, Robert Farrugia Flores from Plato’s Dream Machine, Dejv from Salt, Anne and Sky, Muhammed and Isabel Zammit.
HLT spokesperson Dan Koski explained how the organization is coordinating efforts to complete the home rebuilding project.
The Home Rebuilding Project is currently stalled, halfway through completion. “We had originally planned this home to be finished in August, but many of the people slated to help us complete the home pulled out,” explained Koski.
“We are continuing to move forward with the project as best as we can. Our concern is that the Israeli government will see an opportunity to demolish the half-completed house this fall, after the international presence is much smaller (summer is the peak season). We are currently in the need of $11,000 to complete the home. Any amount that is raised will get us closer to our objective.
“I would stress that we are not viewing this as another project to be completed. We see this as neither a political statement nor a humanitarian charity. Our belief is that we are benefited as individuals embracing the philosophy of non-violence through compassion, and encouraging others to see how they can implement our vision into their lives. We want to get away from the idea that home rebuilding is something that the strong do to help the weak. I cannot stress how uplifting it is to have received more support for this effort.”
