PCBS: Road Cost Index (RCI) Increases by 0.74% in the West Bank in July 2009

RAMALLAH, August 25, 2009 (WAFA)- The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said, Tuesday, that the overall Road Cost Index (RCI) reached 105.37 in July 2009 with an increase of 0.74% compared with the previous month, referring to December 2008=100.

Analysis of Road Cost developments for July indicates an increase in the cost of the major groups; the highest was in iron and steel (+ 6.35%) followed by plastic products (+ 0.83%), road paints (+ 0.78%) and asphalt & bitumen mixture & its products (+ 0.72%).

On the other hand, there was a decrease in the cost of other major groups; the largest decrease was in cement products (- 0.60%), followed by quarries and quarrying products (- 0.57%) and cement (- 0.37%).

PCBS noted that the West Bank does not include those parts of Jerusalem which were annexed by Israel in 1967 and that the data of Gaza Strip is not available, due to the closure of PCBS’ offices in Gaza Strip since 15/04/2008
