Turkey Calls for Constructive Approach towards New Palestinian National Unity Government


ANKARA, February 11, 2007, (WAFA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey called on the international community to take a constructive approach towards the new Palestinian National Unity Government.

In a press release issued Sunday, the ministry hoped the new government would be formed and the public order in Palestine would be restored, Palestinian people's hardships would be alleviated, and necessary steps for the renovation of the institutions would be launched rapidly in all fields, primarily in the fields of health, education and security.

It also added that the new government would contribute in giving the priority to the revitalisation of the peace process on the basis of the relevant UN resolutions and Road Map is highly desirable.

"In the light of the previous experiences lessons that were obtained in the period after the Palestinian Legislative Council elections, and taking into consideration the expectations of Palestinian people and the recommendations of the international community into in the political program of the new national unity government we see that this would contribute a lot into solving difficulties facing the Palestinian people," the ministry added.

It regarded that the new Palestinian National Unity Government as an important opportunity to rapidly remove the tension in the Gaza Strip, and a step towards overcoming the Palestinian people's deep economic hardships, and for the revitalization of the peace process.

The ministry called the international community to act in a supportive manner in order to let the Palestinians undertake expected steps towards the removal of the social and economic hardships, and also to take into consideration the expectations of the Palestinian people.
