PCBS: Increase in Water Consumption of Economical Establishments in 2006
RAMALLAH, August 27, 2006 (WAFA) -The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said that results of the Environmental Economic Survey 2006 indicated that the quantity of consumed water was 3.2 million m3/month in the economical establishments compared with 1.1 million m3/month during 2004.... In a press release issued Sunday, PCBS said that the data also indicated that water network is the main sources of obtaining water in 86.7% of the establishments in the Palestinian Territory, compared with 93.6% in 2004.... It revealed that "wastewater network usage had decreased from 67.9% in 2004 to 66.8% in 2006, also, the wastewater treatment had decreased between these years from 4.1% to 2.7% on series.".... The quantity of solid waste that produced monthly in the establishments amount to 82.0 thousand tons in 2006 compared with 79.3 thousand ton in 2004. Data showed that 6.0% of the establishments separated solid waste in 2006, where as it was 7.4% in 2004, PCBS added.... The results showed that 65.6% of the establishments use municipality open containers comparing with 55.5% in 2004, and 92.1% of the used containers is metal ones comparing with 91.2% in 2004. The majority of the economic establishments dispose its solid waste in a local authority dumping sites: 81.4% in 2006 and 81.7% in 2004.... PCBS had implemented the Environmental Economic Survey 2006 which aimed to cover the whole economic sectors. It provides data on the main indicators of environment in the economical establishments, including water, management of solid waste and wastewater.... E.B. (13:58 P) (10:58 GMT)
