Palestine Participates in World Assembly of Religions for Peace
KYOTO, August 27, 2006 (WAFA) - Palestine participates in a 4-day international conference on religions that opened Saturday in Japan.... Islamic Chief Judge Sheikh Tayssir Tamimi who headed the delegation of Palestine to the eighth World Assembly of Religions for Peace, briefed the conferees on the repercussions of the Israeli aggressions and siege against the Palestinian people, as well the Israeli violations to the sanctity of holy places in Jerusalem.... He added that the Israeli authorities aim at Judiasing Jerusalem and isolating it from Palestinian surroundings through constructing the Apartheid Wall.... Referring to his visit last month to Palestine, Jordan and Israel, the Japanese Prime Minister, Junichiro Koizumi said, "I believe the only way for the people of this region to break the continuing cycle of hatred and violence lies in overcoming differences of religion and custom, and working in the interests of coexistence and prosperity.".... He said the Japanese government would contribute to the peace and stability of the region by enhancing the living standards of people in the region and by cooperating with the governments in the region....
