Fatah: National Unity Government would Strengthen Palestinian Institutions


AMMAN, August 26, 2006 (WAFA) - Fatah Central Committee said Saturday the movement's and other factions' participation in the national unity government would strengthen and preserve the Palestinian institutions.

At the end of its meeting, in presence of President Mahmoud Abbas, the Committee said in a press release that formation of national unity government is a step in the right path and would realise coordination between the institutions of the presidency of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and those of the government.

It pointed out that one of the most important tasks of the movement is to end the security problems and to impose order and reactivate the Palestinian Legislative Council.

The Committee affirmed its commitment to continue efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace based on international legitimacy for ending the occupation, establishing the independent Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its capital and provide a just solution to the problem of Palestinian refugees on the basis of UN resolution 194.

It stressed its commitment to continue the dialogue to maintain the national unity and on its commitment that the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) is the sole legitimate representative of our people at home and abroad.

The Committee confirmed that its main mission is to appeal to the world to lift the siege imposed on our people, end the suffering, open of the crossings, roads as well as ending the aggression and the activation of international responsibility towards the Palestinian rights to achieve a just peace that preserves the rights.

The Committee called on Arab states to continue their political, economic, media support to end siege, and occupation to protect the Islamic and Christian holy places and Jerusalem.
