PRCS: IOF Continues Restricting Freedom of Movement to Ambulances and Medical Teams
RAMALLAH, September 21, 2005 (WAFA)- The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said that the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) has continued to violate International Humanitarian Law and Fundamental Human Rights, by restricting freedom of movement to its ambulances and medical teams.... In its weekly press release for the period 10-16 September 2005, PRCS said that delays, denial of access and arbitrary searches had a negative impact on wounded and sick in Jericho and Za'tara in the West Bank (WB).... In Za'tara, 12/09/2005 (15:00pm): A PRCS ambulance while on route from Ramallah to Nablus, noticed a traffic collision near Za'tara Junction. The crew proceeded to the location of the accident where they saw three injuries, later identified as Israeli colonizers, waiting for an Israeli ambulance to come. Immediately, the PRCS medics tried to administer emergency medical treatment to the injured but the Israeli police and the colonizers at the scene prevented them.... After a while Israeli soldiers arrived and requested assistance from the PRCS crew, the crew explained to the soldiers what had happened and how they were prevented form doing their humanitarian mission. The PRCS medics administered emergency medical treatment to the injuries. When a Magan David Adom (MDA) crew arrived they appreciated the PRCS crew and the injured were transported to hospital.... In Jericho, on 10/09/2005, the IOF delayed a PRCS ambulance for 90 minutes at the DCO checkpoint.... These practices constitute a breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention and the First Additional Protocol of the Geneva Conventions, which are legally applied to the Occupied Palestinian Territory, the PRCS concluded....
