Israeli Bullets Give No Opportunity to Child to Perform his Sunset Prayers
KHANYOUNIS, May 22, 2004, (WAFA) –It did not occur to Um Nidal Abu Akar that her 8-year old youngest son Hussein, who had left for the mosque to pray, would not come back alive.... Hussein was instantly killed and 13 others were critically wounded when Israeli occupation soldiers opened intensive fire at the civilians' houses in Khanyounis city refugee camp, south of the Gaza Strip.... Abu Akar family who was distressed with grief and pain seemed too shocked to lose its son who was murdered on his way to the mosque. Hussein's mother whose heart was painfully squeezing could not utter but “from Allah and unto him we returnâ€. She recalls Hussein as saying with tears pouring down her cheeks “he used to be tender and friendlyâ€.... Sitting among tens of women who came to condole with her, Um Nidal could not describe what she was going through. She went on weeping with a very trembling and sad voice saying “Hussein has a very special place in my heart and will always have it since he is the youngest".... She remembers the horrible moment she knew about Hussein's death weeping "when the neighbours told me that my son was shot, I unconsciously rushed to the hospital where he laid, I did not expect to see my son a dead body before my eyes. He used to be a bundle of joy and activity".... "Those who killed him are nothing but killers and criminals, those who shoot our children dead are inhumane. They are compared to wild animals with no mercy or pityâ€, she said while looking into Hussein's picture which was soaked with tears from her cheeks. All of a sudden she screamed " what fault did he commit to be shot dead, was he carrying a missile, a gun or was he leading a tank?" This question has no answer as the Israeli gunshots do not need a pretext to kill the little children dreams.... It was not difficult only for Abu Akar family to lose Hussein, but also for his school mates in al-Khaldiyya School who came to extend condolences to their colleague’s family. Their innocent faces which were filled with agony, cried heartfully paying the last farewell to Hussein.... The neighbours who witnessed the killing of Hussein narrate the tragedy saying "the Israeli tanks stationed adjacent to the city refugee camp while Hussein was on his way to the mosque to perform the sunset (evening) prayers in al-Shafeie Mosque. The tanks opened random fire at a group of civilians with whom Hussein was walking, a bullet penetrated his abdomen and a great amount of blood poured out the body.... Hussein was transferred to Nasser Hospital in the city where his pure soul rose to the heaven. The medics reported that live many attempts were exerted to save him but fate was faster than hope. Hussein was killed while 13 others were critically wounded.... Ismeal Abu Akar, Hussein's father 45, who lives in a very modest home made of asbestos in the camp with an eight-member family, said after a long time of busy-mindedness " the Israeli soldiers do not distinguish between a man and a woman, an aged or a child, they are good for nothing but shooting civilians in a cold blood. Hussein is now one of those who were targeted".... He added " We, as all those who live in the area, are living in an inferno due to the Israeli repeated incursions that target our lives"... Khanyounis refugee camp's population is estimated at 45,000. To the east of it locates Israeli colony of "Nave Dikalem" with military watching towers spread horror every where and stole every single dream.
