NEWYORK, May 20, 2004, (WAFA)- United Nations Secretary- General Kofi Annan strongly condemned Israeli killing of innocent Palestinian demonstrators in the Gaza Strip city of Rafah.... In a statement issued Wednesday, S.G expressed his distress and deep condolences about the killing of peaceful demonstrators which include women and children.... S.G also calls on Israel "to immediately halt the military operations" adding that Israel "must abide by its obligations as an occupying power, which include protecting the civilian population and eschewing the disproportionate or indiscriminate use of force"....
