RAMALLAH, Wednesday, June 03, 2020 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Wednesday overnight rounded up 11 Palestinians from various parts of the West Bank, said the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).
PPS confirmed in a press release that Israeli forces detained five Palestinians in multiple raids across Ramallah and al-Bireh district.
One of the five detainees was identified as a resident of Silwad town, east of Ramallah city, and the four others as residents of Deir Abu Mashaal village, northwest of Ramallah city.
In Tubas district, Israeli military vehicles raided al-Far‘a refugee camp, south of Tubas city, where soldiers rounded up two Palestinians.
PPS confirmed a similar military raid in Tammun town, south of Tubas, resulting in the detention of another.
In the northern West Bank, PPS said that a Palestinian teen from Qalqilia city was detained after being summoned before the Israeli intelligence.
In Jerusalem district, Israeli police detained a Palestinian after storming his house in al-Issawiya neighborhood.
Another was rounded up in a military raid in Qatanna town, northwest of Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, security sources confirmed that several Palestinians suffocated from tear gas fired by the Israeli military at the entrance of al-Arroub refugee camp, north of Hebron city.
Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.
These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
According to Palestinian figures, roughly 5,700 Palestinians -- including numerous women and children -- are currently languishing in Israeli detention facilities.
Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
