Israeli navy continues to bar fishing in northern Gaza shores

GAZA, April 14, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli navy boats barred fishermen on Saturday from sailing in the northern Gaza shores and forced them to return to coast, according to fishermen who told WAFA that has been a daily occurrence.

They said that the navy opened fire at fishermen across from Sudaniya shores in the northern Gaza Strip leading the fisherman to return to the marina. No one was hurt.

There has been cases in the past of fishermen killed, boat damages or seized by the Israeli navy, which s fishing in the northern shores to three nautical miles while allowing fishing up to nine nautical miles in the southern Gaza shores.

A large number of Gazans rely on fishing for daily living in light of the tight decade-old blockade imposed by Israel on the Gaza Strip.
