RAMALLAH, Thursday, July 18, 2019 (WAFA) – The latest spate of Palestinian home demolitions in Jerusalem dominated the front page headlines in Thursday’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Quds reported that Israeli occupation authorities demolished Palestinian structures in the East Jerusalem neighborhoods of Silwan and Beit Hanina in addition to Sur Baher town and al-Jeeb village, located to the southwest and northwest of Jerusalem respectively.
Al-Ayyam reported in this regard that Israeli occupation authorities demolished four Palestinian structures and stores in several Jerusalem neighborhoods.
Israeli military bulldozers demolished Wednesday a car wash at the entrance of Sur Baher, a commercial structure in Beit Hanina, a house and other structures in al-Jeeb besides to four shops in Silwan.
Al-Quds added that Israel has taken preparations to demolish 100 Palestinian apartments in Wadi al-Hummus area, on the edge of Sur Baher, southeast of Jerusalem.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam added in this regard that UN officials call on Israel to halt the demolition plans in Sur Baher.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added that Israeli occupation authorities have informed the Jerusalem Electricity District Company to disconnect electricity from the buildings slated for demolition in Sur Baher.
Moreover, al-Ayyam said that Israeli military razed Palestinian land and set up mobile homes in Huwwara town, south of Nablus, and the Jordan Valley.00
Additionally, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that a number of Palestinians were injured by Israeli military gunfire during confrontations north of the West Bank city of al-Bireh.
The dailies highlighted the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee’s meeting chaired by President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.
They said that the PLO Executive Committee warns against the Israeli policy of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, particularly in Jerusalem and its surroundings.
Al-Quds said that the PLO Executive Committee also warns against the Israeli policy of Palestinian home demolitions and seizure of church properties.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida elaborated that the PLO Executive Committee reiterated its call to Arab countries to halt all forms of normalization with the occupying power, Israel.
Palestinian official efforts to tackle the Lebanese government’s decision restricting Palestinian refugees’ right to work.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Abbas has decided to dispatch PLO Executive Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad to Lebanon to follow-up on this issue.
Abbas was reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating that he refuses any escalation as a path to resolve issues related to Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and urging for dialogue to resolve them.
Al-Quds spotlighted calls to fend off Ateret Cohanim settler-colonialist group’s scheme to seize three strategically located properties belonging to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in Jerusalem’s Old City.
The dailies reported that the Palestinian government submitted a recommendation to Abbas to set up a government investment bank.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that fires broke out across the occupied Palestinian territories and Israel amid scorching heat wave.
They also reported the Palestine Prisoner’s Society announcing that new details confirm that Nassar Taqatqa died as a result of torture in Israeli prisons.
Taqatqa, 31, died in solitary confinement in Israel’s Nitzan prison weeks after his detention as a result of torture and medical negligence.
According to the dailies, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) calls for the provision of funds to purchase Palestinian properties under the threat of seizure by Israel in Jerusalem.
OIC was also reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida stressing that they would not accept any measure that undermines Jerusalem’s historic status as the capital of the State of Palestine.
Al-Quds highlighted Information Minister Nabil Abu Rudeineh’s participation in the 50th ordinary session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers in Cairo.
Finally, al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the British city of Sheffield has recognizes the State of Palestine, hoists its flag.
