RAMALLAH, Saturday, June 01, 2019 (WAFA) – The health condition of hunger striking Palestinian detainee in Israeli prisons Hasan Ewaiwi is critically deteriorating, said the Palestinian Authority’s Detainees Affairs Commission.

Ewaiwi has been on hunger strike for 62 days in protest of his administrative detention, without a charge or trial, and has reached a very critical stage and is suffering from dizziness, weight loss, constant cold feeling, and severe headache and stomachache.

A 35-year-old father of three children, Ewaiwi was detained on January 15, 2019 and has spent several years in Israeli detention. He embarked on administrative detention in late March when an Israeli court renewed his unjust administrative detention.

Israel’s widely condemned policy of administrative detention allows detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals usually ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.

“Israel‘s use of administrative detention blatantly violates the restrictions of international law. Israel carries it out in a highly classified manner that denies detainees the possibility of mounting a proper defense,” says Israeli human rights group B’Tselem.
