President Abbas calls for honoring resolutions of Dhahran and Tunis summits

MECCA, Friday, May 31, 2019 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas called at an emergency summit of Arab leaders in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, upon the Arab countries to honor and abide by the resolutions of the Dhahran Summit of April 2018 and the Tunis Summit of March 2019.

"The State of Palestine, which has declared its absolute rejection of replacing the principle of ‘land for peace‘ with the principle of ‘prosperity for peace‘, affirms that we will not participate in the workshop called for by the US administration in Manama," the President said during the emergency summit.

He also emphasized that the Palestinians reject all attempts by the US administration aimed at undermining international law and legitimacy, including the two-state solution and the creation of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders.

"The previous Arab summits decided to set up a financial safety net to help us cope with the US and Israeli siege imposed on us. We thank those who responded to this request and hope that others will respond," Abbas said.

During his speech, the President condemned the recent attacks on the Saudi oil plants and the attacks on ships off the United Arab Emirates, saying that the Palestinians hold a balanced position towards their Arab neighbors and do not accept any threats against them.
